Duties: Installs and maintains computer hardware and software; provides training to staff and patrons utilizing pertinent applications; maintains library website; troubleshoots hardware and software; administers and maintains inventory of computers, database contracts and computer supplies.
Major duties:
- Install and maintain computer hardware and software: Install new computers and pertinent software applications; troubleshoot computers, Internet, WiFi, email and networking issues; responsible for computer and printer operating systems updates, virus protection software, and system backups, including making basic repairs to equipment; research hardware and software programs to keep current with technology making recommendations to improve library operation and community/patron experience.
- Maintain library website: Includes updating and verifying website information, calendar of events and updating browsers, databases and links; prepare monthly reports based on utilization of databases linked to website.
- Provide training: Training to staff and patrons utilizing pertinent applications, including Microsoft Office, email applications, library software (Atriuum), databases and Internet capabilities; provide site support evaluating problems and recommending solutions.
- Office Management: Set up and maintain office equipment, including phone system, copy machines, fax machines, typewriters, shredders, etc. Procure office supplies.
- Procedures: Write procedures for all library staff processes including front desk duties and responsibilities. Write guidelines for patron use of computers and library services including online services.
- Administration: Administer and maintain inventory of computers, printers, database contracts and computer supplies; liaison with hardware and software vendors, web host/email provider; provide support in preparing Town notification of upcoming library events.
- Covering Reference Desk: Helping patrons find materials or online information and assisting them with printing, copying, or computer problems, and interlibrary loan questions.
- Knowledge of library practices and procedures and research techniques.
- Knowledge of computer hardware, software installations, Windows operating systems, data security and backup systems.
- Knowledge of Content Manager.
- Knowledge of office equipment including phone setup, fax machines, copiers, printers, microphones, projectors, video camera, etc.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- Skill in the use of such office equipment as computer, calculator, copier, fax machine and printer.
- Skill in the use of software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, etc.
- Skill in marketing programs.
- Ability to update information and links.
- Ability to install computer hardware and software.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot computer system problems.
- Ability to prepare procedure guidelines.
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff, volunteers, and library patrons.
