She now is working on opening her second restaurant and getting back into television. She said she has been approached by production companies to film in her restaurant, but she won't let the fame get to her. "I'm not going to yell at my dishwasher just to make a good episode."
For Food Network Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarin, television was a chance to prove what years in the restaurant world apparently had not.
"The biggest response I have gotten since winning Iron Chef is `We never knew you could cook.' And it's all about perception," Zakarin said. "It's really important to temper that perception and realize that what people perceive is important."
That is why Zakarin, who has been a chef for over three decades, said if given the choice between working only on television or only in a restaurant, he would choose TV.
"TV is the gigantic tide that lifts all boats," he said.
The sentiment toward food television hasn't always been so positive among chefs. Panel moderator Bobby Flay said his peers felt he was making a mistake when he first got on TV.
"'I don't want to ruin my brand as a chef,'" Flay recalled other chefs saying. "All those people have now sent in their tapes to the networks because now everybody understands it's OK to be a successful chef, run your business and to also be able to talk to the viewer and really get your name out there. And it's obviously worked out."

Heiner said Motorola is demanding Microsoft to pay a royalty of
22.5 dollars for its 50 patents on the video standard for every 1,

7 Great Books for Preparing a Toddler for a New Sibling | Baby ...
My first daughter was 13 months old when my husband and I learned that we were expecting,. Along with feelings of joy and happiness, we were nervous wrecks. Among our nightly questions to the ceiling in our bedroom were: ?How are we going to make this work?? ?What if she (our first daughter) resents us??
Given our first daughter?s age, we knew that explaining that a baby was living in my ever-growing stomach wouldn?t do much, so instead, this time, we listened to the ?experts? and began reading to her about the process of becoming a new sibling.
In the course of nine months of pregnancy and beyond, I must have hundreds of books on new sibling relationships to my toddler. Okay, maybe hundreds is an overstatement. But I did read a lot of books, enough books to know that there are some true winners and true duds out there.
I will spare you with my list of duds. Instead, I?ll just share my top seven winners:
1.? The New Baby series by Rachel Fuller. There are four books in this series: Waiting for Baby, My New Baby, You and Me Baby, and Look at Me (New Baby).
These books cover it all, from mom?s pregnancy to life with an infant. What I like: These books features easy text, simple drawings, multiracial families, and gender-neutral main characters.
2.? I?m Going to be a Big Sister/I?m Going to be a Big Brother by Brenda Bercun.
These books not only teaches children what to expect with a new baby, but they also gives parents a way to talk to their children about complex things like labor and delivery. What I like: These books tackles confusing concepts and makes them understandable to younger audiences. When reading the sister version of this book, even now, I?m sure my daughter doesn?t get half of what?s being talked about, but she likes the story and the pictures.
3. I?m a Big Sister/I?m a Big Brother by Joanna Cole.
These books feature the stories of toddlers who?ve just become older siblings (i.e., baby just brought home from hospital). What I like: Along with explaining some of the unique things that babies do (i.e., feeding from a bottle, crying when wet) that are different from toddlers, these books do much to emphasize how fun and special they (toddlers) are as the bigger sibling.
4.? The New Baby by Mercer Mayer.
This book tells the story of a little critter who desperately tries to connect with his new sibling through doing the things he typically does with others, i.e., tell jokes, read stories, etc. In the end, he figures out what he can do to connect and becomes a big brother. What I like: The story of a toddler having trouble with trying to interact with a baby for the first time is funny but also one that toddler can readily understand.
5.? Best Ever Big Sister/Best Ever Big Brother by Karen Katz. 
These are lift the flap books that tell the story of an older sibling who must learn to adjust to a new baby. What I like: These books aren?t big on text, but are big on bold illustrations. This is great for younger toddlers.
6.? We Have a Baby by Catheryn Falwell. 
This is wonderful story of how a family (including older siblings) can love and care for that new baby. What I like: It?s easy read and perfect for one-on-one storytimes with a younger toddler.
7.? Hello Baby by Lizzy Rockwell. 
This is a great book that covers everything, from baby care to OB visits, that an older sibling would want or need to know about new siblings. What I like: This is a book that will work with a number of age groups given its great pictures and slightly more sophisticated text.

Lessons learned from Japan's deadly earthquake
VANCOUVER, British Columbia?? In 2011, Japan was one of the most prepared countries in the world for a massive earthquake. Yet when a mega-quake hit Japan last March, sparking a huge tsunami, it was shockingly devastating.
Now, almost a year after the Japan earthquake, scientists say the hard lessons learned will go a long way toward being better prepared next time.
"It was very large and largely unanticipated by many seismologists," James Mori of Kyoto University's Disaster Prevention Research Institute said here Sunday at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. "It was actually very disheartening for all the people doing earthquake research and hazard mitigation in Japan."
The quake, a whopping 9.0 on the magnitude scale used to rate the severity of earthquakes, struck off the east coast of Japan's Tohoku region on March 11. The temblor, the strongest ever to hit Japan and among the five most powerful earthquakes ever recorded, caused a massive tsunami wave that reached heights up to 133 feet (40.5 meters).
More than 22,000 people were reported dead or missing.
"The fact that tens of thousands of people were killed was really a shock," Mori said. "I think people thought that such kinds of events wouldn't happen in Japan with all the work put into earthquake research and hazard mitigation."
Lessons learned
Part of the reason scientists weren't expecting such a strong quake in Japan was the fact that a quake that powerful had never before been recorded, and seismic predictions based on the known record of earthquakes in Japan did not forecast such an event.
"The lesson is that 400 or 500 years of historical records is not enough," Mori said.
In the wake of the Tohoku quake, researchers hope to make significant improvements to earthquake models and forecasting, both for Japan, and for the entire planet. They have a wealth of data to work from, as no other large earthquake in history has been recorded by as many instruments with as much precision, said John Anderson, a seismologist atthe University of Nevada.
"At last we have a very well-recorded mega earthquake, and the data is extraordinary," Anderson said.
For example, the data reveal that the ground motions were actually less violent than might have been predicted for such a huge earthquake. Between that fact, and the high building standards in Japan that ensured many structures were designed to withstand strong quakes, the property damage and loss of life from the earthquake alone were not as significant as they could have been.
"The shaking itself was not responsible for a large fraction of deaths ? it was mostly the tsunami," Anderson said.
Disaster response
In addition to shedding light on the science of earthquakes, the experience of Japan is shaping ideas of how best to respond to disasters.
While Japan has in place a high-tech warning system to alert the public when an earthquake is imminent, it didn't work as well as it might have last March.
The warning was issued just eight seconds after the first wave of the earthquake was detected, Mori said. It sent a message to 124 television stations and 52 million phones. It automatically caused bullet trains to stop and elevators to halt.
However, calculations of the earthquake's likely strength based on the initial wave turned out to be wrong because the earthquake increased in power over time. Consequently, the system underestimated the severity and extent of the temblor, and the warning was not sent to places like Tokyo, which initially seemed too far to be affected, but actually was.
