OutFront Minnesota's mission is to make our state a place where all Minnesotans have the freedom, power, and confidence to make the best choices for their own lives.

Our slogan is Leading Minnesota Toward LGBT Equality?reflecting the leadership role we provide in moving the state toward the elimination of homophobia and toward full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, and bringing allies into the movement.

OutFront Minnesota provides this leadership by delivering programs and services to Minnesota's LGBT and allied communities in the area of public policy, anti-violence, education and training, and the law.

OutFront is hiring a Latino/a Community Organizer to further build this movement!

OutFront Minnesota has co-founded Minnesotans United for All Families; a broad coalition of organizations focused on defeating the proposed constitutional amendment banning marriage for same-sex couples placed on the ballot in November 2012. Minnesota will be the first state to defeat an anti-marriage amendment through a campaign that is highly relational, deeply accountable, and massive in scale.

Position Description

This position reports to the Community Organizing Director. This position combines the numbers based accountability and massive scale of political organizing with the leadership development and team building inherent in community organizing. The core of this position is recruiting, training and supporting dozens of leaders in the African-American community who in turn recruit, support and train hundreds of volunteers to have 10's of thousands of high-quality in-depth conversations with Minnesota voters. This position requires an individual who likes leading and working in a team, can maintain multiple responsibilities and can stay on top of information and tasks in a fast-paced organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and implement systems and logistics to execute effective large scale voter contact and volunteer recruitment actions, such as phone banking, and relationship building with African-American community members

Recruit, train, and support volunteers and volunteer organizers in all actions.

Identify volunteer leaders and manage their leadership development. Build teams of volunteer leaders within the African-American Community

Identify, develop, and work with allied partners on voter identification actions.

Coordinate organizing projects as needed, including grassroots fundraising, & earned media

Lead community activists through community power analysis and follow up

Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Proven ability to develop and implement concrete goals based on critical thinking about grassroots organizing tactics, coalition building, and electoral campaigns.

Passionate about defeating the anti-same sex marriage constitutional amendment and achieving LGBT equality

Highly organized and responsible self-starter with the ability to identify new opportunities, while effectively utilizing existing resources.

Effective communicator. Values and fosters open communication; uses and understands the importance of active listening skills and is an effective public speaker with above average writing skills

Proven ability to work as part of a team in a fast paced environment; willingness to pitch in to help others; able to handle high-stress situations.

Values self-improvement; able to accept praise and critical feedback and seeks evaluation.

Inspires other colleagues, volunteers, and community members to do high-quality organizing work.

Demonstrates enthusiasm about work.

Proven ability and willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends and maintain a flexible schedule.

Experience working in a multi-cultural environment where commitment to diversity based on race, ethnic origin, gender, age, sexual orientation and physical ability is an important institutional value.

Experience organizing in the African-American community. Experience with communities of faith and an openness to difference in religious traditions

Previous experience with voter and volunteer data systems as well as community organizing and leadership development is desirable
