Trailer: Early Look at Spielberg?s Adventures of Tintin

Fans have been waiting for Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson?s The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn for a long time. They?ll still have to wait until December to see the full film based on the vintage Belgian comic strip, but this new trailer offers a first glimpse into Tintin?s world.

It?s already getting buzz, from those who find the first trailer ?eye-popping? to those who hope that director Spielberg?s 3-D movie doesn?t get lost in the uncanny valley.

Honestly, it?s too early to tell from this short glimpse. The action is quick and there are few close-ups of the reporter/hero Tintin in action. The motion-capture animation looks impressive, but whether it will hold up for a full film is unclear.

Given the film?s pedigree it should still be wildly entertaining, even if the animation doesn?t strike everyone?s fancy. In addition to having Jackson as a producer, the movie was written by Scott Pilgrim vs. the World director Edgar Wright and Doctor Who scribe Steven Moffat. It also has the voices of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Andy Serkis, to name a few.

But all those big geek names don?t mean fans will accept anything less than wonderful when it comes to an adaptation of Georges Remi (aka Herg?)?s beloved source material. In just a few months we?ll know if those years of anticipation were worth it.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn hits theaters Dec. 23.
